Home cures for lice have been around for centuries and each generation has a story to tell and a cure they know works. Over the years I have had, or should I say my kids have had, their fair share of head lice. Schools are a great place for hair lice they love it there all those young heads to nest in and build a home. We have all had that horrible realisation when your child gets back from class one day and they seem to be itching a lot. Under closer inspection you discover the true horror that little creature have decided to take over your child’s scalp and the nightmare begins!

Over several years I have managed to collect many natural and sometimes unusual home cures for head lice from all different people. Let’s go through some and how they should be applied and hopefully these will be of great use to you if needed.

Home Cures For Head Lice

You may have heard that mayonnaise can be used as a great home cures for lice. This method requires thick and I mean really thick mayonnaise. Take small sections of the hair, about an inch at a time and apply a generous amount of mayo. Do this until all the hair is covered then wrap in saran and wear a shower cap over the top and leave overnight. Rinse through in the morning and hay presto this home cure for lice has completely got rid of the little critters and it’s a great conditioner BONUS!

My best friends daughter had a terrible case of lice and after two prescribed treatments from her doctor they were still thriving. After losing small amounts of hair from her hair line (which never properly grew back) and suffering blisters all over her scalp she stopped the treatments and turned to a home remedy. She covered her head with Vaseline and wrapped it up in saran which she wore for two days and sure enough no more lice.

How about this, grab a can of hair spray and fill it up with alcohol. Cover the infected head until the can is completely empty. Wrap the head in a plastic bag or use a shower cap and leave overnight. When you wake up wash your hair as normal and the alcohol will have killed the lice for sure. A good alcohol product to use is wintergreen as it doesn’t smell too bad but just make sure before you apply it you place a warm wet rag over the person’s mouth to protect them from the fumes.

Another good product  to use that lots of people already have in the house is Listerine Mouth Wash. I know what your thinking why would I want to use Listerine as  home cures for lice, how can that work well trust me it does. Apply the listerine all over the scalp and hair then cover and leave overnight. Rinse off the next day with cold water and the head lice will be gone. Sometimes the lice eggs can be harder to treat so try using white vinegar as well.

Mix the following ingredients together: One part 3% peroxide and two parts water mix in 20 mule team borax. Wash the hair and then dry it off with a towel and apply the mixture all over the head. It’s really important to let it dry DO NOT RINSE OUT!. One treatment should do it but if not just repeat the process. Because the mixture is so sticky it sticks to the parasites and kills them that way.

This is a great one and works really well and doesn’t cost much more than normal shampoo. It not only heals the scalp and nourishes the hair but it doesn’t burn the skin. Apply Margosa  in the same way as regular shampoo and wash the hair thoroughly. The lice will be all washed away after only a couple of goes and if you use Margosa once a week it will prevent you from ever getting head lice again.

Another simple and easy lost cost way is to use normal hair conditioner. Really lather the infected head with conditioner and cover with a shower cap. Leave it for as long as you can then wash out and comb through the hair with a special lice comb. The conditioner makes it impossible for the lice and their eggs to hang on to the hair so they are easily removed leaving beautifully conditioned hair as the only side effect!. Repeat this process a few times and you will eradicate your lice for good.

Try grinding up tulaisi leaf & neeam leaf in equal quantities into a fine paste. Apply this mixture all over the head and leave on for 20 mins. Wash it off with warm water then repeat four days later.

Here’s one that is extremely simple and doesn’t involve any mess. Head lice don’t like high heat and when applied directly it will kill them. If you’re careful you can blow dry the infected head for around 30 mins and this direct high heat which doesn’t damage the hair will kill the lice. Repeat this process for two or three days as an easy but excellent home cures for lice.

Grab an empty shampoo bottle that you have cleaned out really well and fill it with the following ingredients. 1 cup of mineral oil (no substitution), 1 cup of apple cider vinegar, between 20 and 25 drops of thyme essential oil and between 20 to 25 drops of rosemary essential oil. Apply this mixture all over the scalp and hair and cover with a shower cap so you can leave it overnight. Mix 20 drops of tee tree oil in with normal shampoo and wash the hair. For any that have not been rinsed away use a lice comb to remove them. Repeat the process a further two or three times and you will have achieved the perfect home cures for lice.

Head Lice Home Remedies are without doubt gaining in popularity so people dont have to turn to harsh chemicals. If you have kids, then you’ve probably have had some experience with head lice. Most parents want to avoid using dangerous chemicals on their children. These tiny parasitic insects live in or on the human hair and scalp. They are wingless, so they can’t jump or swim, but can be easily spread by head to head contact and even by the sharing of hats, clothes and bed linens. Head lice can cause itching and irritation of the scalp and can cause infections due to persistent scratching. Some people may also develop a red rash on the neck due to louse droppings.

Lice are typically found behind the ear or on the neck, near the base of the head. Head lice are tiny, about the size of a pin head when hatched and then can grow up to only 2-3mm as an adult. Their size makes them nearly impossible to notice and their eggs are laid near the base of the skull, making them even harder to detect. Just getting rid of the adult lice is not enough. You must also kill the eggs or nits in order to avoid re-infestation.  The use of many head lice natural home remedies are becoming increasingly popular among parents who want to avoid harsh chemicals.

Treatments to kill head lice have to be intense and done regularly due to a rapid breeding cycle. Once they are hatched, lice eggs reach full maturity between 6-10 days and adult females lay eggs on the 7th day.Parents of school age children are most likely to be very familiar with head lice just due to the lifestyle. Head lice home remedies are viable options, especially for those with sensitive skin who might have reactions to chemicals found in over the counter or prescription medicines or treatments.

There are a variety of natural head lice home remedies available with ingredients found in most homes. You can wash your hair with vinegar which kills the nits in two days. You can also try applying coconut oil to your head after shampooing. Adding 10-15 drops of tea tree oil to your shampoo bottle will also aid in getting rid of lice by washing your hair with this every day. You can also rub Listerine mouth wash on your head to kill lice and even better is the use of mayonnaise. By rubbing mayo all over your child’s scalp and combing it through after 2 hours and then washing thoroughly with hot water and soap you can kill the lice. There are many other head lice home remedies available which may or may not work for everyone.  Do your research and if all these fail, you can still go for an all natural mixture found at your local pharmacy which should enable you to put together some great head lice home remedies.

Here For Vickies Best Treatment For Lice

As parents, we want to do all we can to protect our children and that includes treatment for lice.  Not just from the world around us, but from the little things that can sneak into our lives such as head lice.  Though there are a variety of products on the market to combat this problem, they are all made from harsh chemicals.  For those who would rather not pour chemicals on their childrens’ heads, here are a few different approaches you can take for the best treatment for lice.

One of the most popular treatments for head lice or nits as they are called is to use basic things from around the kitchen.  Slather the infected person’s head with products such as mayonnaise, various types of cooking oil, or petroleum jelly.  Once the hair is completely saturated, cover with a plastic shower cap and leave on for 3-4 hours.  Afterward, wash hair completely with a coconut scented shampoo and conditioner combo, then comb out with a metal comb.  The main drawback from this is that it can take several applications in order for this to work and can be very messy where young children are concerned.

Other treatment for lice includes using either a strong mint flavored or antiseptic based mouthwash.  Again, saturate the head completely and cover with a plastic shower cap.  This is thought to cause problems to the adult lices’ breathing abilities, and helps loosen the natural glues that holds the eggs to the hair shaft.  Some people also swear by using a product called Tea Tree Oil.  Add a few drops of this strongly scented oil to a bottle of water and spritzed on the head can help other remedies get rid of the lice.  The problem is that it is not recommended that this be used on very young children.  Also, the strong scent of this oil may cause problems with the child and/or those around them.

We can’t keep our children shielded from all the ills in life, and that includes head lice.  But in order to get rid of the problem without turning to harsh chemicals, we need to look further into the use of natural treatments for lice like head lice home remedies which are a safer for are children.
